Teabags matter. So we went on a journey to make all of ours biodegradable.

We’re working hard to make this clear for your on our boxes, but in the meantime, rest assured that all our retail boxes are full of our lovely plant based bags.
And whilst doing this, we’ve also never compromised on the great-tasting brew you’ve come to expect from us.
We want everyone to switch but recent studies by the University of East Anglia and BBC War On plastics have shown that many have not yet made the transition. You can find out more here.
Most tea bag manufacturers should have up to date information on their website and we recommend you check there for their latest status.
If they don’t have the information we recommend you get in touch with their customer carelines.
How did we do it? Time for some science.
GEEK SQUAD

PG tips’ Pyramid tea bags are mostly made of paper. In the past, we did use a small amount of polypropylene (the most common type of plastic) as the seal to keep our signature pyramid teabags’ structure intact.
Our tea boffins have been busy finding a replacement for polypropylene. And good news, they found it! It’s a plant-based material derived from corn.
This means that everything inside our boxes of tea are now plant-based. We’ll raise a cuppa to that!
LET'S BREAK IT DOWN
