The Kenyan Situation
PG tips' commitment to sustainability is now even more important given the recent unrest surrounding the general election in Kenya.
Our largest tea plantation is Kericho in Western Kenya, where we have grown tea since 1924 and employ over 18,000 people. Unilever, the owner of PG tips, has always taken great care of their workers and Unilever Tea Kenya is doing everything possible to help those who were affected on their plantations and to ensure their safety. We are providing food and shelter to workers and their families who have been displaced, and it is our intention to retain all the displaced workers.
Unilever has donated $1 million to the World Food Programme to provide relief to those most in need in Kenya. PG tips has donated a further €250,000 to help with damage to homes and property on our plantations.
